  22. .TH curl_escape 3 "6 March 2002" "libcurl 7.9" "libcurl Manual"
  23. .SH NAME
  24. curl_escape - URL encodes the given string
  25. .SH SYNOPSIS
  26. .nf
  27. #include <curl/curl.h>
  28. char *curl_escape(const char *url, int length);
  29. .fi
  30. .SH DESCRIPTION
  31. Obsolete function. Use \fIcurl_easy_escape(3)\fP instead!
  32. This function will convert the given input string to an URL encoded string and
  33. return that as a new allocated string. All input characters that are not a-z,
  34. A-Z or 0-9 will be converted to their "URL escaped" version (%NN where NN is a
  35. two-digit hexadecimal number).
  36. If the \fBlengthf\fP argument is set to 0, curl_escape() will use strlen() on
  37. the input \fBurl\fP string to find out the size.
  38. You must \fIcurl_free(3)\fP the returned string when you are done with it.
  39. .SH EXAMPLE
  40. .nf
  41. char *output = curl_escape("data to convert", 15);
  42. if(output) {
  43. printf("Encoded: %s\\n", output);
  44. curl_free(output);
  45. }
  46. .fi
  47. .SH AVAILABILITY
  48. Since 7.15.4, \fIcurl_easy_escape(3)\fP should be used. This function will
  49. be removed in a future release.
