  25. .SH NAME
  26. curl_url_get - extract a part from a URL
  27. .SH SYNOPSIS
  28. .nf
  29. #include <curl/curl.h>
  30. CURLUcode curl_url_get(CURLU *url,
  31. CURLUPart what,
  32. char **part,
  33. unsigned int flags)
  34. .fi
  35. .SH DESCRIPTION
  36. Given the \fIurl\fP handle of an already parsed URL, this function lets the
  37. user extract individual pieces from it.
  38. The \fIwhat\fP argument should be the particular part to extract (see list
  39. below) and \fIpart\fP points to a 'char *' to get updated to point to a newly
  40. allocated string with the contents.
  41. The URL API has no particular maximum length for URL fiends. In the real
  42. world, excessively long field in URLs will cause problems even if this API
  43. accepts them. This function can return very large ones.
  44. The \fIflags\fP argument is a bitmask with individual features.
  45. The returned part pointer must be freed with \fIcurl_free(3)\fP after use.
  46. .SH FLAGS
  47. The flags argument is zero, one or more bits set in a bitmask.
  48. .IP CURLU_DEFAULT_PORT
  49. If the handle has no port stored, this option will make \fIcurl_url_get(3)\fP
  50. return the default port for the used scheme.
  51. .IP CURLU_DEFAULT_SCHEME
  52. If the handle has no scheme stored, this option will make
  53. \fIcurl_url_get(3)\fP return the default scheme instead of error.
  54. .IP CURLU_NO_DEFAULT_PORT
  55. Instructs \fIcurl_url_get(3)\fP to not return a port number if it matches the
  56. default port for the scheme.
  57. .IP CURLU_URLDECODE
  58. Asks \fIcurl_url_get(3)\fP to URL decode the contents before returning it. It
  59. will not attempt to decode the scheme, the port number or the full URL.
  60. The query component will also get plus-to-space conversion as a bonus when
  61. this bit is set.
  62. Note that this URL decoding is charset unaware and you will get a zero
  63. terminated string back with data that could be intended for a particular
  64. encoding.
  65. If there's any byte values lower than 32 in the decoded string, the get
  66. operation will return an error instead.
  67. .IP CURLU_URLENCODE
  68. If set, will make \fIcurl_url_get(3)\fP URL encode the host name part when a
  69. full URL is retrieved. If not set (default), libcurl returns the URL with the
  70. host name "raw" to support IDN names to appear as-is. IDN host names are
  71. typically using non-ASCII bytes that otherwise will be percent-encoded.
  72. Note that even when not asking for URL encoding, the '%' (byte 37) will be URL
  73. encoded to make sure the host name remains valid.
  74. .IP CURLU_PUNYCODE
  75. If set and \fICURLU_URLENCODE\fP is not set, and asked to retrieve the
  76. \fBCURLUPART_HOST\fP or \fBCURLUPART_URL\fP parts, libcurl returns the host
  77. name in its punycode version if it contains any non-ASCII octets (and is an
  78. IDN name).
  79. If libcurl is built without IDN capabilities, using this bit will make
  80. \fIcurl_url_get(3)\fP return \fICURLUE_LACKS_IDN\fP if the host name contains
  81. anything outside the ASCII range.
  82. (Added in curl 7.88.0)
  83. .SH PARTS
  84. .IP CURLUPART_URL
  85. When asked to return the full URL, \fIcurl_url_get(3)\fP will return a
  86. normalized and possibly cleaned up version of what was previously parsed.
  87. We advise using the \fICURLU_PUNYCODE\fP option to get the URL as "normalized"
  88. as possible since IDN allows host names to be written in many different ways
  89. that still end up the same punycode version.
  90. .IP CURLUPART_SCHEME
  91. Scheme cannot be URL decoded on get.
  92. .IP CURLUPART_USER
  93. .IP CURLUPART_PASSWORD
  94. .IP CURLUPART_OPTIONS
  95. The options field is an optional field that might follow the password in the
  96. userinfo part. It is only recognized/used when parsing URLs for the following
  97. schemes: pop3, smtp and imap. The URL API still allows users to set and get
  98. this field independently of scheme when not parsing full URLs.
  99. .IP CURLUPART_HOST
  100. The host name. If it is an IPv6 numeric address, the zone id will not be part
  101. of it but is provided separately in \fICURLUPART_ZONEID\fP. IPv6 numerical
  102. addresses are returned within brackets ([]).
  103. IPv6 names are normalized when set, which should make them as short as
  104. possible while maintaining correct syntax.
  105. .IP CURLUPART_ZONEID
  106. If the host name is a numeric IPv6 address, this field might also be set.
  107. .IP CURLUPART_PORT
  108. A port cannot be URL decoded on get. This number is returned in a string just
  109. like all other parts. That string is guaranteed to hold a valid port number in
  110. ASCII using base 10.
  111. .IP CURLUPART_PATH
  112. The \fIpart\fP will be '/' even if no path is supplied in the URL. A URL path
  113. always starts with a slash.
  114. .IP CURLUPART_QUERY
  115. The initial question mark that denotes the beginning of the query part is a
  116. delimiter only. It is not part of the query contents.
  117. A not-present query will lead \fIpart\fP to be set to NULL.
  118. A zero-length query will lead \fIpart\fP to be set to a zero-length string.
  119. The query part will also get pluses converted to space when asked to URL
  120. decode on get with the CURLU_URLDECODE bit.
  121. .IP CURLUPART_FRAGMENT
  122. The initial hash sign that denotes the beginning of the fragment is a
  123. delimiter only. It is not part of the fragment contents.
  124. .SH EXAMPLE
  125. .nf
  126. CURLUcode rc;
  127. CURLU *url = curl_url();
  128. rc = curl_url_set(url, CURLUPART_URL, "https://example.com", 0);
  129. if(!rc) {
  130. char *scheme;
  131. rc = curl_url_get(url, CURLUPART_SCHEME, &scheme, 0);
  132. if(!rc) {
  133. printf("the scheme is %s\\n", scheme);
  134. curl_free(scheme);
  135. }
  136. curl_url_cleanup(url);
  137. }
  138. .fi
  139. .SH AVAILABILITY
  140. Added in 7.62.0. CURLUPART_ZONEID was added in 7.65.0.
  141. .SH RETURN VALUE
  142. Returns a CURLUcode error value, which is CURLUE_OK (0) if everything went
  143. fine. See the \fIlibcurl-errors(3)\fP man page for the full list with
  144. descriptions.
  145. If this function returns an error, no URL part is returned.
