#81 TL-WR841ND v9 : what u-boot to choose, u-boot_mod or TP-Link's ?

This is a sequel of #74 . Finally I'm going to return to LibreCMC tinkering and also would like to replace the existing u-boot of TL-WR841ND v9 router. I noticed that u-boot_mod is far behind the official u-boot repo at https://github.com/u-boot/u-boot , but TP-Link's u-boot is also far behind.

@RISCI_ATOM , please tell, what is your favorite u-boot that you are using at your TL-WR841ND v9 , and why you have chosen it over another one?

Many devices on the market use an old fork of u-boot with the changes needed for bring-up. The reason that these changes are not sent upstream is because they don't meet the project's standards or would need to be cleaned up before the project would accept them. Manufactures don't usually spend any effort in maintaining these forks and they usually don't change with time.

U-boot_mod is based upon the u-boot trees commonly distributed with routers that use certain Atheros SoCs / reference platforms. The main benefit of using u-boot_mod is the fact that it makes recovery much easier since the firmware + u-boot can be flashed using a nice web-ui.

@RISCI_ATOM , thank you very much for your reply. Am I understanding it correctly that u-boot_mod may be better than TP-Link's uboot because u-boot_mod may be newer and more refined? I don't know much about these uboots, so what is your opinion about u-boot_mod VS TP-Link's ?
