The libreCMC project is proud to announce the release of libreCMC v1.4.8 with the following changes:

    • GCC 5.5.0 / 7.4.0
    • linux-libre 4.4.183

    • ustream-ssl 2019.06.24
    • Wireguard 0.2019.06.01
    • lite package feed ... many other fixes.

    New Targets:

    • TPE-R1200 images are available and ready when the device becomes available in the near future.

The primary focus of this release is to start the process of tackling the issue of bloat and provide a means for having a conversation about this issue. The idea is that the libreCMC project should focus on supporting select hardware and features that achieve the goals of the project. For a while now, the project has struggled to provide support for some of the low end devices that made the project possible in the first place. These efforts will make it possible to continue support for all current hardware and possibly hardware with even fewer resources.

The package feed in this release was curated based upon packages that have been pulled from the server over the last year. If you find a package is missing or want recommend a new piece of hardware, please file an issue or write to one of the libreCMC mailing lists.

The most notable change with this release is the removal of references to GitHub repositories. The project will now mirror critical components that are still hosted on GitHub and remove / replace components that become a liability when the GitHub acquisition is finalized. The libreCMC project has brought up the issues with using GitHub for hosting source code repositories and now the future of projects hosted there have an uncertain future. While many don't see the recent acquisition as a big deal, GitHub has a history of changing their ToS (Terms of Service) and varying levels of censorship. More information will be made available in future project statements.
