  3. .SH NAME
  4. ps2ascii \- Ghostscript translator from PostScript or PDF to ASCII
  5. .SH SYNOPSIS
  6. \fBps2ascii\fR [ \fIinput.ps\fR [ \fIoutput.txt\fR ] ]
  7. .br
  8. \fBps2ascii\fR \fIinput.pdf\fR [ \fIoutput.txt\fR ]
  9. .SH DESCRIPTION
  10. \fBps2ascii\fR uses \fBgs\fR(1) to extract ASCII text from
  11. \fBPostScript\fR(tm) or Adobe \fBPortable Document Format\fR (PDF)
  12. files. If no files are specified on the command line, \fBgs\fR reads from
  13. standard input; but PDF input must come from an explicitly-named file, not
  14. standard input. If no output file is specified, the ASCII text is written
  15. to standard output.
  16. .PP
  17. \fBps2ascii\fR doesn't look at font encoding, and isn't very good at
  18. dealing with kerning, so for PostScript (but not currently PDF), you might
  19. consider \fBpstotext\fR (see below).
  20. .SH FILES
  21. Run "\fBgs -h\fR" to find the location of Ghostscript documentation on your
  22. system, from which you can get more details.

  29. primary maintainers of Ghostscript.
