  1. AMSFonts PostScript Fonts (Adobe Type 1 format)
  2. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
  3. The PostScript Type 1 implementation of the AMSFonts produced by and
  4. previously distributed by Blue Sky Research and Y&Y, Inc. are now freely
  5. available for general use. This has been accomplished through the cooperation
  6. of a consortium of scientific publishers with Blue Sky Research and Y&Y.
  7. Members of this consortium include:
  8. Elsevier Science IBM Corporation Society for Industrial and Applied
  9. Mathematics (SIAM) Springer-Verlag American Mathematical Society (AMS)
  10. In order to assure the authenticity of these fonts, copyright will be held by
  11. the American Mathematical Society. This is not meant to restrict in any way
  12. the legitimate use of the fonts, such as (but not limited to) electronic
  13. distribution of documents containing these fonts, inclusion of these fonts
  14. into other public domain or commercial font collections or computer
  15. applications, use of the outline data to create derivative fonts and/or
  16. faces, etc. However, the AMS does require that the AMS copyright notice be
  17. removed from any derivative versions of the fonts which have been altered in
  18. any way. In addition, to ensure the fidelity of TeX documents using Computer
  19. Modern fonts, Professor Donald Knuth, creator of the Computer Modern faces,
  20. has requested that any alterations which yield different font metrics be
  21. given a different name.
  22. The AMS does not provide technical support or installation assistance beyond
  23. any installation instructions included in this file. Installation and use of
  24. these fonts may require some technical expertise. Review this READ.ME file
  25. in its entirety before undertaking an installation.
  26. The fonts are available in Macintosh and PFB (binary Type 1) outline
  27. formats.
  28. The canonical version of the PostScript AMSFonts is located on
  29. the AMS FTP server, ftp.ams.org, at /pub/tex/psfonts/amsfonts.

  31. History
  32. The PostScript versions of the AMSFonts were produced by Blue Sky Research
  33. of Portland, Oregon, and Y&Y, Inc., of Concord, Massachusetts, who published
  34. the fonts in conjunction with their commercial implementations of the TeX
  35. program.
  36. Character outlines were derived from high-resolution METAFONT-generated
  37. character bitmaps by the ScanLab application from Projective Solutions (Ian
  38. Morrison and Henry Pinkham), applied and corrected by Douglas Henderson of
  39. Blue Sky Research. Character hints were created by software from Y&Y
  40. (Berthold and Blenda Horn), with extensive hand work by Blenda Horn. Font
  41. engineering, production, and packaging were by Douglas Henderson and Berthold
  42. Horn.

  47. are also available on the Comprehensive TeX Archive Network (CTAN).
  48. The following three files are in this directory for you to download:
  49. amsps-textures.hqx for use with Textures, contains fonts in standard
  50. Macintosh Type 1 format
  51. amsps-oztex.hqx for use with OzTeX, contains fonts in standard
  52. Macintosh Type 1 format
  53. amsps-pc.zip for use on a Windows or DOS system, contains fonts
  54. in PFB format with PFM metrics files
