I have a Thinkpenguin TPE-R1100. I would like to upgrade from libreCMC 1.4.1 to 1.4.2. However, how do I select the right image? What is the difference between the legacy and the core images?

According to the Thinkpenguin documentation I have to select librecmc-ar71xx-generic-tpe-r1100-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin. However, I first tried to use librecmc-ar71xx-generic-gl-ar150-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin which worked well. How is this possible and how do the different images differ?

RISCI_ATOM can comment more authoritatively, but I believe the tpe-r1100 and gl-ar150 are very similar platform and chipset. However, gl-ar150 is available from a different company and is not RYF certified.

@somenut it is better to discuss these questions publicly, so that the other people would also see this knowledge

@balduin have you figured out the difference between tpe and gl ? maybe also repost a reply from thinkpenguin if you have it

@mike_banon there is a binary image for the Thinkpenguin TPE-R1100 for version 1.4.3. The name of the image is librecmc-ar71xx-generic-tpe-r1100-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin and can be found in the Main, Core and legacy folder for the 1.4.3 release.

@pi31415 provided a good explanation and a link which summarizes the differences between the versions. Basically, if you want a web interface (WebUI {LuCI}) you select the Thinkpenguin TPE-R1100 image from Main: https://librecmc.org/librecmc/downloads/snapshots/v1.4.3/ar71xx/generic/librecmc-ar71xx-generic-tpe-r1100-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin.

If you want to have a plain image with the package manager, but no web interface, then select the Thinkpenguin TPE-R1100 image from Core: https://librecmc.org/librecmc/downloads/snapshots/v1.4.3-core/ar71xx/generic/librecmc-ar71xx-generic-tpe-r1100-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin.

And you can ignore the legacy version, because the Thinkpenguin TPE-R1100 is not a legacy system. However, the difference is that the legacy image does not include a package manager or web interface.

LibreCMC 1.4.4 is out. Nothing has changed regarding the Main, Core and Legacy image categories. The new image for the Thinkpenguin TPE-R1100 can be found in https://librecmc.org/librecmc/downloads/snapshots/v1.4.4/ar71xx/generic/ under the name: librecmc-ar71xx-generic-tpe-r1100-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin. For the gl-ar150 it would be: librecmc-ar71xx-generic-gl-ar150-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin.
