TL-WR841ND v9 : what u-boot to choose, u-boot_mod or TP-Link's ?

@RISCI_ATOM , thank you very much for your reply. Am I understanding it correctly that u-boot_mod may be better than TP-Link's uboot because u-boot_mod may be newer and more refined? I don't know much about these uboots, so what is your opinion about u-boot_mod VS TP-Link's ?

TL-WR841ND v9 : u-boot mod needed for SPI flash upgrade? (4M -> 8M/16M)

@RISCI_ATOM , thank you for detailed reply. Which path have you tried (u_boot_mod or official sources) and why you've chosen it over another? Also, were there any unexpected difficulties?

Default login interface unencrypted : 4M targets (legacy)

@pi31415 regarding RESTful: sounds interesting... but is this communication through HTTP/HTTPS interface as secure as the console edits through SSH ?

@balduin : Some people (more "Windows-minded"?) - love the GUI tools like that WebUI or Luci, for other people (more "Linux-minded"?) the console tools are much more convenient. In this situation - with a small 4 MB flash chip - the "console people" are having a big advantage: could install a lot of useful packages instead of any UI. Don't know how much space WebUI is eating, but even if its pretty small, I'm sure its possible to install plenty of useful packages instead of WebUI : useful packages which will bring the new features and possibilities, --- and not just an alternative-to-console user interface for doing the same amount of things... Also, I am pretty sure that - as always - there are some advanced settings which are not accessible through any UI and only available by the manual editing of text config files through the console

Missing package luci-app-acme?

@pi31415 maybe it would be more appropriate to ask such questions at the openwrt forum / mailing lists, in example - https://forum.openwrt.org/viewforum.php?id=2 - "Developers Only" section of OpenWRT forum. And if this issue would be fixed upstream, then a fix will also reach us at librecmc some time later... but if you need this software right now, it could be that you don't even need to package it: just install the cross-compilation tools to your main PC with Linux, compile the sources for the architecture of your router's CPU, then transmit the compiled binaries to the router's filesystem through scp and after connecting to the router through ssh (if you have done everything correctly) you will be able to launch your compiled binaries like any other program at your main PC with Linux

Can you make documentation for, unbricking the tp link wr1043nd with serial cable

@pi31415 this documentation does not tell any specifics regarding wr-1043n router the OP has. Specifics, like: location of the serial port pins and their pinout meaning

How do I select the right image?

@somenut it is better to discuss these questions publicly, so that the other people would also see this knowledge

@balduin Main drawback of Luci is that its taking too much space, making it difficult to fit to the routers with 4 MB flash without any significant sacrifices. This is why @oriansj wants to either find a way to reduce the size of Luci (either by removing or compressing some of the interfaces), or find the alternative UI which provides the similar set of functions as Luci but is less bloated. Personally I am not using Luci at all, installed lots of useful packages instead of Luci. When I need to setup a router, I connect to it through SSH and manually edit the config files with a text editor (using vi; if you dont like vi you could install nano but it takes more space). Also, I think there are some config options which are unavailable through Luci but of course are available through the manual edits of the config files
